  you know what pissese me off? is that if any band, even a band like black flag thats CLEARLY not emo, makes a song about depression, everyone who hears it is immediatly like “that song and that band are emo”. any one who says this is emo is retarted. they know nothing about music, and they need to open up. people can be depressed without being emo.

  Orange is right, Fugazi was labeled “emocore” in a lot of reviews back then. That isn’t to say Ian Mackeye wasn’t pissed about it either.

  Punk rock is far too broad of a genre for you to make assumptions like that. Yes, emo music derives from ******** punk, but the first bands to be labeled “emocore”, (Fugazi, Rites of Spring, etc.) not only rejected the term, but existed in a different time and place than Black Flag. What’s considered emo now really has nothing to do with punk in general, and is way different lyrically, and musicality to ANY ******** punk band.
